Phone Mentor Training:

– For volunteers interested in serving as a mentor for aged-out youth on OCJ Kids T-Mobile Phone Program. Understanding the program, what to expect during phone calls, and how to direct youth to resources and services

Adopt a Group Home:

– Equipping churches to adopt a local group home in their community and how to partner with congregant care agencies to provide wrap around services, activities, and house mentors to work one-on-one with the youth  

InterAct Trauma Care:

– Understanding the role of Occupational Therapy in trauma care, how trauma is begins, effects of toxic stress, and ACES 

Restoring Dignity With Young Women:

– This video is designed to help you/your church reach out to young ladies in your community by providing on overview of OCJ Kids’ Restoring Dignity Boutique, and ideas to reproduce this model concept in your community. The purpose is to help girls understand the beauty of who God created them to be, by providing the knowledge about their body, their mind, and their safety.

Building Resource Kits for the Foster Community:

– An instructional guide to equip community groups and churches with systems to correctly collect, build, and deliver resources to Child Services

Financial Literacy for Youth Series:

– A financial management series with proven techniques to improve financial management skills (i.e., banking, budgeting, etc.), and how to cope with abuse-related trauma so they can manage their responses to negative stimuli rather than reacting in appropriately at school or on the job. Sessions will also include setting up checking and savings accounts, working with a bank, investing, and  calculating interest

Compassion Fatigue:

What is compassion fatigue? How it can affect your ministry and personal life. Learn tips to recognize the signs and how to implement strategies to overcome the pitfall of fatigue.

Community Networking Tips:

What is networking? Who are the networking groups and how do I find them? How can these groups impact our mission? What do I do once I find a group? We will answer this and many other questions as we introduce you to the incredible impactful world of networking groups. 

Partnering with Corporate America:

Learn how the business community can become one of your greatest allies for funding your programs and providing volunteers for your outreach events, so you are not solely dependent upon the faith community. Learn how to approach business professionals, learn their language, and techniques to build a long term partnership.

Breaking the Cycle Training:

Audience: Foster youth ages 14 and up

NAU OT students have created the training and resource tools given at the training.

Purpose

The purpose of this training to help foster youth understand the effects of trauma on their brains and how that can affect their development and how they can begin to break the cycle by taking, by helping them to understand the window of tolerance, recognize patterns of behavior, to learn about their responsibility to others and themselves.

Vision

The vision for this training to give young people the understanding of the potential outcomes of their lives if they do not take action now to bring change to their lives.  I want to give them the tools to be able to make those changes.

Goal

2023/24 fiscal year: Goal is to train at 60 to 80 youth ages 14 and up in foster care

 

Training duration: 1 to 1.5 hours

Materials needed (for each participant)

  • Fidget (have been using OCJ Kids pop its)
  • Notebook
  • Pen
  • Activity sheets (2 )
  • Sheet of stationary paper w/envelope
  • Interact Project Teen Edition magazine

Trainer time (7 hours per training) plus travel (Trainer is the Director of Group Home Relations)

Laptop or tablet for presentation

 

 

InterAct Resources

InterAct Elementary Edition:

– An interactive workbook, providing activities and tools to address fine &  gross motor skills development for elementary age children

InterAct Teen Edition:

– An interactive workbook providing activities and techniques for self-regulation & coping skills for teens. Topics include; Coping Skills, Anger Management, Emotional Regulation, Stress Management, Motivation, and Paying Attention.

Self-Esteem Through Social & Emotional Learning:

– A workbook designed to build self-esteem in at risk youth through social emotional learning, self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making  

Helpful Guide for New Moms:

– Bonding with your baby, supporting the baby’s development, and taking care of your mental health as a new mom  

Life Skills:

– Creating a life plan and exit strategy for teens transitioning into independent living

Helpful Guide for Parents with Toddlers:

– Helpful guide for parents with children ages 1-5 years old. Promoting healthy development, attachment styles, and navigating life as a parent of a toddler to preschool

Restoring Dignity:

– The purpose of this magazine is to help you understand the beauty of YOU. To provide you with knowledge about your body, your mind, and your safety. Topics include: Puberty, Your Shape and Healthy Habits, Taking Care of your body, Breasts, The Cycle, Hair Growth, Hygiene, Changes in your Brain ,Unhealthy Habits, and Safety.

Mind Your Mind:

– The workbook is designed to increase mental resiliency with the ability to understand behaviors and manage reactions to things happening in life. To understand and accept prior experiences with the intention of increasing the ability to cope with negative emotions.

Feeding Tips for New Moms:

– Everything you need to know about feeding your baby from birth to three years old

Calm-A-Llama:

– Activity book to help children and youth learn coping and self-regulation techniques through fun games and activities

Youth are amazing! They hope, dream, challenge, learn and lay the groundwork for their futures and ours.  The education, experience and family values instilled in a teen will follow them for the rest of their lives.  Every day, youth in society are exposed to unhealthy and unstable futures.

OCJ Kids’ mission is to equip foster and at-risk children and youth by providing them tools, resources, and positive role models to succeed and excel in every area of life.
