Mentorship Opportunities
Group Home House Mentor
OCJ Kids partners with foster residential group homes throughout the Valley. You will be assigned to a group home based upon your schedule and the group home’s availability.
As a House Mentor, you will:
Visit foster kids in their group home.
Help create a bond and relationship with kids who need caring adults in their life.
Playing games, help with homework, or just listen to them talk about their day.
Walk with them through life, instilling hope, love and dreams for the future and helping them succeed.
This opportunity requires completion of OCJ Kids’ Mentor Training workshop, paperwork and a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card (available at the training, cost is $65 for the processing fee, cash or check).
Young Adult Mentor
OCK Kids provides free cell phones with text, data, and minutes to youth when they exit foster care at age 18. OCJ Kids helps prepare them for independent living and provides a free cell phone for up to 6 months. The youth must check in with a caring adult each month to have text, data, and minutes reloaded.
As a Young Adult Mentor, you will:
Make monthly calls to aged-out youth who are enrolled in the Phone Program.
Ask questions to ensure OCJ Kids is tracking their progress and assisting them as needed to maintain independent living.
Ask if they need any resources or help and then work with OCJ Kids to provide it.
This opportunity requires completion of OCJ Kids’ Mentor Training workshop, volunteer application and a background check.
